GNAOUA For its 16th edition, the Gnaoua and World Music Festival promises music 'in all its forms.' The cultural event of the city will be held on 20th to 23rd June, 2013, featuring 4 days of more than 40 concerts, a programme of music without borders.
In homage the traditions and interculturalism of the past 15 festivals, the 16th edition promises to amaze us once again, revisiting African, Moroccan and International sounds. Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival is known for experimentation and fusion presented to an audience in love with music.
Oumou Sangare, priestess of peace, was on the big stage last year and this year the Senegalese Tourism Minister, Youssou N'Dour, one of the great figures of 2013, embodying the present native African Gnawa sounds, will also be present. As usual, great jazz maestros will bewitch the town alongside Gnaoua masters for a memorable event.
Also not to be missed, the second edition of the festival forum in which discussions and exchanges on the basis of openness and listening, will take place between stakeholders from around the world coming to reflect on companies moving the youth in the world.
This years very special edition will pay tribute to three Gnaoua figures: the legendary group Nass El Ghiwane Abderrahman Paca and major Gnaoui masters Sharif Regargui and Abdellah Guinea.
