ATMOSPHERE On the walls hang family photos, masks and a collection of art. Vines interwined on columns and a beautiful beautiful where we enjoyed a hearty and fragrant meal. Welcome to Dar Loubane.
When Evelyne and Jean-Claude opened the doors to this 18th century Riad, located at the entrance to the Medina, it was in 1994 when Essaouira was still lacking in restaurants. Since then Dar Loubane has evolved as the heart of culinary invention in the charming and serene Essaouira, respecting local traditions with an authentic atmosphere.
Music, antiques and home cooking
Dar Loubane is not just about food, the venue plays a good range of music, including jazz and classic and Gnawa live every Saturday night.
In this musical setting, with timeless decor, you have a choice of Moroccan classics such as lamb tagine, beef tagine, pastilla and couscous or a selection of fresh fish and seafood caught in Essaouira. Everything is fresh from the market, cooked to perfection and at reasonable prices.
The happy hour tapas and a good wine selection
Want a drink the shade? Dar Loubane offers nightly happy hours and serves small tapas dishes with a selection of the best Moroccan wines, including the now famous Val d'Argan, made in the Essaouira region. A tapas menu focuses on a choice of salads, shrimp tacos, fritters and more.
If you pass the softly lit door of Dar Loubane, know that more than just a restaurant awaits you. The warm welcoming of owners who have seen the city evolve in the past 20 years and a pleasant atmosphere complete the experience.
